Emma J Knight

A precious one from us is gone, a voice we loved is still, a place is vacant in our hearts, that can never be filled. God needed another Angel to worship His Throne, so He looked down from Heaven and called our loved one home.

Emma Smith Knight, 72, departed her life on Monday, January 26, 2026 at ECU Health Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, NC. Emma Jean was born July 1, 1953 to Ella Ruth Smith. She joined New Piney Grove Baptist Church at an early age and later in life joined Ballards Grove Baptist Church in Eure, NC. Emma was a certified Nursing Assistant at several nursing homes. She was a dedicated employee at Gates Health and Rehab in Gatesville, NC.

Emma Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ulysis "Knight Train" Knight, Sr. and one stepdaughter, Andrea Owens.

Emma leaves to cherish her fond memories to her sons, Ulysis Knight, Jr. and Uriah Knight (Demini Kah) of the home; two daughters whom she raised, Mariska Elliott (Larry) of Norfolk, Va and Natasha Alexis (Joseph) of Gilbert, SC; step children, Ronald Tomblin, Sheri Knight both of Connecticut, Angela Knight of Newport News, Va, and Cheree Olia Snow of Florida; along with several grandchildren and great grandchildren, her loving mother, Ms. Ella Ruth Smith of Gatesville, NC; siblings, Ella Holley, Tonya Jones (Hurley), Willie Smith, David Smith (Jean), Emerick Smith, and Walter Smith; she also leaves to cherish good memories to her in-laws, Goldie Knight, Brenda Wynkoop, Bernice White (Lee), Hope Williams, and Sherman Knight (Darlene); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the funeral home for a viewing and visitation.  A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday February 4, 2026, 11am at Upper Room Church, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember her life.  Emma will be laid to rest at the Knight Family Cemetery.
