Clarence M. Rountree, Sr. was born on July 13, 1937, to the late Viola Rountree and the late Alphonsie Twine. He peacefully entered eternal rest on February 24, 2026, at his home. He received his education through the Chowan County School System.
Clarence dedicated many years of service to his work, retiring after 25 years from the Dye Plant in Edenton. He also worked for 15 years at VEPCO in Virginia, from which he likewise retired.
A devoted and faithful member of Welch’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Clarence served diligently on the Usher Board and the Hospitality Committee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lula Belle Rountree; two brothers, Lewis (Roger) Rountree and Floyd Lee Rountree; one sister, Lois Hope Walton; a grandson, Khalif Privott; two sons-in-law, William Riddick, Sr. and Reginald Hill; one sister-in-law, Rose Rountree.
He enjoyed cutting grass and spending time visiting family and friends. Clarence also loved to dress well and took great pride in his appearance. He was known as a sharp, neat dresser whose outfits were always perfectly coordinated from his hat to his suit to his shoes.
He leaves to cherish precious memories to his fiancé, Angela Riddick; two daughters, Lula Rountree Riddick and Annette Hill; two sons, Clarence Rountree, Jr. (Helen) and Ronald Privott (Michelle); grandchildren, Shawn Rountree (Gina), William (WJ) Riddick, Jr. (Denise), Clarence (Tree) Rountree, III (Debra), Jamar (Munch) Hill (Jovan), Nisha (Princess) Rountree, Jordan Privott, Ashley Ferrell; four godchildren, Jennifer, Sylvia, Lataisha, and Nick; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; four sisters, Ruth Rountree (his twin), Rayal Dillard, Carrie Holley, Minnie Britt; two brothers, Thurman Rountree (Miranda) and George Rountree (Ida). He also leaves loving memories to a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at Greater Welch Baptist Church for a time of viewing, refection, and fellowship.
A celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at 2:00pm at Greater Welch Baptist Church. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, faith, and hard work will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
